Brainwash Your Children: Lessons in Autosuggestion
You may be thinking brainwashing your child is a bad idea, but hear me out. It has its advantages if you give it a moment to sink in. Wouldn’t you like for your children to follow a wonderful path in life, even if it isn’t exactly as you might have planned it?
Sure you would there is no doubt in my mind this is what you are after. Maybe you never realized brainwashing your child’s mind could be the answer, but stick with me for a bit and let’s explore this option a bit more.
Brainwash Your Children: Lessons in Autosuggestion
According to Wikipedia (my wife despises this as a source, but it is widely accepted), brain wash means:
refers to a process in which a group or individual “systematically uses unethically manipulative methods to persuade others to conform to the wishes of the manipulator(s), often to the detriment of the person being manipulated”.
The term has been applied to any tactic, psychological or otherwise, which can be seen as subverting an individual’s sense of control over their own thinking, behavior, emotions or decision making.
If used in a negative way, I can see this being frowned upon. However, with positive intentions used by the right parents, this can be a very powerful tool in raising outstanding young men and women.
Aim of our Brainwashing Tactics
Many people ask us what did we do at such an early age to get our children to be so intelligent. Although there are a lot of different things we did to get them where they are today, one of the major factors was brainwashing. I have always felt the media, educational system and peers will do a number of our children’s minds, so why not be proactive and act on their minds in a positive manner before the world gets hold of them…..so we did.
Here are some of the aims of our Brainwashing tactics over the years:
Esteem – Everyone needs a firm appreciation of themselves, their skills and abilities. We have to love ourselves in order to help and love others. Every child deserves to love themselves. Nurture it, but remember in the future you must continue to guide it. Also, remember it is not what people think of your child, but what they think of themselves that matters the most. When they look in the mirror, it will serve them best if they see a fierce lion as opposed to an alley cat.
Confidence – Positive brainwashing can lead to a high level of confidence. No, you we con’t want conceit in our children, but they have to believe they can do any and everything. And guess what, with the right mental mindset, they can!
Desire – We want our children to have high aspirations in life. With esteem and confidence, they will not be afraid to desire some rather ambitious things in life. Desire is a wonderful compass to lead them the rest of their life and with positive brainwashing you can ensure they have it and it is sending them in a moral and ethical direction. It is only inferior people that feel they have to cheat to be successful. Pumped full of positive brainwashing, you child will not feel this way.
Courage – We want our children to be courageous. They must have the audacity to set big outrageous goals, go after them, and achieve them. This can only be done with courage and a strong belief in themselves. This comes from positive brainwashing.
Some of The Things We Did from – Birth until about 6 years old
Allow me to take a few moments to share with yous some of the basic brainwashing techniques we used on our children early in their development. In the next article, I will share more as they got older and older, but first things first.
1) Repetition, Repetition, Repetition
If you have ever heard the saying “Repetition is the Mother of Learning”, this is where this section came from. We would constantly ask our children, What can you do? Their reply, Anything!
Not only was “anything” said, but it was said with MASS ENTHUSIASM! We find that emotions mixed with the repetition really help drive this point home. If you ask our children to this day what can they do, they will automatically say anything. Positive Brainwashing!
2) Alphabet Train
The alphabet train is something we used when our children were just learning to talk to get them to learn the alphabet. We did this on a consistent basis, every night before going to bed.
We colored the alphabet, numbers, and shapes one evening, then taped them to the wall going down the hallway to their bedroom. One parent would get on their hands and knees with the child on their back. We would make train noises all around the house carrying them, then once we got to the hallway we would go over the alphabet.
Our son would touch each letter saying it and the color as we go. Each night we would repeat this over and over and over again before going to bed. Eventually, we added the sounds the letters made getting them to learn their phonics way before most children even think about letters. (We will go over this later in more detail, but you get the picture.) The results are amazing when you put positive brainwashing to work in your child’s life.
3) Encouragement that they could do it.
The level of encouragement and support we offer our children is amazing. They know we are behind them all the way with whatever they want to do. We ask provocative questions about their goals and dreams, then don’t try to limit their answers, but provide insight and direction on where to learn more. Then when they are following those leads, we tell them they can do it and could be the best if they work for it.
Positive reinforcement is what my wife loves to call this, but I find Brainwashing to be more provocative and truthful. The goal is to get to your child’s mind before influence of the outside world seems in and takes over for good.
We will continue this discussion in my next article, but I want to open it up to you. In what ways do you think you could use positive brain washing in your parenting to help your child and their future?
